Welcome From the Division Chair
Welcome to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Division in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. It is a privilege to serve a division that brings together outstanding faculty, dedicated staff, and talented students working across computer engineering, electronics, power and energy systems, communications and signal processing, control, and robotics.
Our approach to education is grounded in a simple yet profound belief: students learn best when they are actively engaged and empowered to take ownership of their own learning. Through FLARE: Foster Learning through Action, Reflection, and Empowerment. we emphasize strong fundamentals alongside hands-on experience, design, teamwork, and problem-solving. This philosophy is reinforced by BEACON—Build Engagement through Advancement, Collaboration, Ownership, and Networks—which shapes how we connect students to research, industry, and to one another.
We offer strong educational pathways at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our undergraduate programs include the Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and the Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, both accredited by ABET and built on a solid foundation that allows students to develop depth across the major areas of electrical and computer engineering. At the graduate level, we offer the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electrical Engineering, supporting advanced study and research across the breadth of the field. In an era shaped by artificial intelligence and pervasive computing, electrical and computer engineering is more relevant than ever, with ECE ideas and technologies underpinning advances across various fields of engineering and science.
The ECE Division pursues research in several exciting and high-impact areas, including secure and resilient cyber-physical systems; autonomous vehicles, drones, and robotics; edge intelligence, next-generation wireless systems, and signal processing; biomedical imaging and AI-aided cancer detection; nanophotonics and nanoelectronic materials and devices; intelligent control and human–machine interfaces; smart grids, renewable energy, power electronics, and microgrids; secure hardware and AI safety; and advanced computer and accelerator architectures. These efforts are highly interdisciplinary and supported by modern experimental facilities spanning computing, power, materials, fabrication, and biomedical platforms. Our research is funded by major agencies and partners, including the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Office of Naval Research, Louisiana Board of Regents, Louisiana Transportation Research Center, industry sponsors, and regional healthcare systems.
Located in a region with one of the nation's strongest concentrations of industry, our division is well-positioned to serve the state and beyond. Through excellence in teaching, research, and engagement, we prepare engineers who are technically strong, adaptable, and committed to lifelong learning.
Thank you for your interest in the ECE Division. I invite you to explore our programs and join us as we continue to build a vibrant and impactful engineering community.
