Healing Through Innovation
From an early age, Alexander (Alex) Doga knew he wanted to become a doctor, but he also sought to understand the ins and outs of business and management. He found LSU and its focus on interdisciplinary learning to be the ideal place to explore both interests. Instead of limiting himself, Alex seized the opportunity before him.
"Senior year, I'm finishing up a major in business analytics, a minor in biological sciences, and a bunch of courses that go toward prerequisites for med school."
In the E. J. Ourso College of Business. Alex sharpened his skill set and developed competencies that would help him stand out in his field, all while finding a welcoming community.
“ Everyone here is willing to help you, whatever it is, across the board. That support, along with the curriculum, really pushed me to grow. ”
Alex challenges those who claim there's little connection between business and healthcare. He sees analytics as a tool to bridge the two disciplines, one that can uncover insights to improve patient outcomes. Gathering data on a person's family history, stressors, and daily life and comparing it to the larger population can reveal risks, guide preventive care, or simply offer insight into staying healthy and happy.
His belief in the power of this intersection deepened during his time as a medical assistant and student worker in pediatric cardiology at Ochsner Health System. There, Alex learned about the heart, clinical processes, and the challenges families face as they navigate care.
Alex expected the hardest part of the job to be medical complexity. Instead, it was access. He saw "families who cared deeply still fall behind because the process was heavy, schedules were tight, and small logistical barriers compounded into missed appointments and delayed treatment." The experience changed how he viewed his business education and its potential to drive change.
That mindset, and the preparation he received at LSU, led Alex to take a risk by completing an internship with an AI startup in New York City. Through the internship, he learned what it takes to build and deploy AI at scale and how to apply innovative solutions to urgent healthcare issues. The aim isn't to replace essential human-to-human connections, but to develop tools that help reduce providers' workload. When used thoughtfully, this technology could significantly reduce burnout rates in high-stress roles such as home healthcare or hospice nursing.
"I am a business analytics major because I want to turn real operational friction into measurable improvement. My goal is to build solutions that increase capacity and reduce unnecessary burdens without losing the human side of care."
Alex's next stop is a one-year MBA with a concentration in healthcare administration before he heads to medical school. Every step of the way, he's focused on combining data, compassion, and innovation to make healthcare work better for the people it serves.
