Biography
Dr. Tyree Mitchell completed his predoctoral fellowship at the Kellogg School of Management
at Northwestern University and received his PhD in Industrial and Organizational Psychology
from DePaul University. His research currently focuses on understanding group and
identity processes in various contexts. In organizational contexts, his research underscores
how issues of importance to organizations (e.g., developing leaders, enhancing team
effectiveness, managing conflict and intergroup relations) are often issues related
to social identity—that is, the sense of self tied to our group memberships.
Dr. Mitchell’s research is associated with millions of dollars in funding from major
agencies, such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the National Academies
of Science, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM). His research has been published in
high-impact peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel
Psychology) and featured in popular press outlets (e.g., Forbes, Harvard Business
Review). His most recent book is Searching for Trust in the Global Economy, which was published by University of Toronto Press. He has also worked on research
and consulting projects for several major agencies, such as the National Aeronautics
and Space Administration (NASA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA).
Dr. Mitchell is an honorary Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the
University of Queensland. He currently serves as an Action Editor for Industrial and
Organizational Psychology Journal, and as an editorial board member for the Journal
of Applied Psychology, and Personnel Psychology. He has also served on review panels
for the National Science Foundation.
